Wireless Phone Modem
- A mobile phone (also called mobile, cellular phone, cell phone or handphone) is an electronic device used for full duplex two-way radio telecommunications over a cellular network of base stations known as cell sites.
- A wireless phone works much like a cordless phone but connects through a PSTN (public switched telephony network) instead of a POTS line (plain old telephone service or regular telephone lines). Security is the guaranteed feature with wireless phones.
- A modem (modulator-demodulator) is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information.
- A combined device for modulation and demodulation, for example, between the digital data of a computer and the analog signal of a telephone line
- (from a combination of MOdulate and DEModulate) electronic equipment consisting of a device used to connect computers by a telephone line

Umm. It's a microphone stand, with a clothes peg.
So, I figured that it's been long enough for Telstra to reconnect the phone and ADSL. The ADSL router is still not showing a PPP light, but is getting ADSL line sync (ie. can talk to the DSLAM at the Oxenford exchange). So I call Telstra and then get told that it's something that must be looked into by the ISP (which in our case is Westnet). So I call Westnet (they're excellent btw) and talk to a techo in provisioning (in 30secs) who firstly shares some of my opinions of the telecommunications overlord, and secondly has to inform me that Telstra Wholesale may want to charge me a reconnection of $99 (because they SUCK). So it looks like the initial Telstra pay over the web incident is gonna cost us a lot. Yay for Telstra... assholes.
